Wooden heat-treated pallets—the environmentally responsible choice

When it comes to deciding what type of pallet to purchase for the transportation of your products, the argument for heat treated wooden pallets is a powerful one. And if you factor in the added bonus of full cycle green production with 100 percent recuperation, then the decision as to the type of pallet and the manufacturer you choose should be an easy one to make.

Why heat treated wood pallets? Choosing pallets made of wood is the most environmentally responsible decision to make for a variety of reasons:

  • Currently, there are more trees planted in North America than harvested in a given year. And North America is now home to a larger proportion of forest than it was 70 years ago.
  • When a tree is harvested, every part of it is used and nothing goes to waste. Plastic pallets, on the other hand, require large amounts of our precious fossil fuels to make them in the first place, and even more to break them down again at the end of their life cycle.
  • Heat treated wooden pallets contain no toxic chemicals. Meanwhile, plastic and chemically-treated wood pallets pose major toxic risks in the event of fire. In fact, deca-bromine, which is used by plastic pallet manufacturers as a fire retardant, is scheduled to be phased out by the end of 2013 due to major health and environmental concerns.

In addition, heat treated pallets (to ISPM-15 specifications) ensures that the pallets are able to move freely across borders anywhere in the world.

What is full cycle green production with 100% recuperation?
This means placing the conservation of the environment at the heart of manufacturing principles. To do this effectively requires getting the most out of each heat-treated wood pallet that is constructed and placed into circulation. When properly constructed, wooden pallets are highly reusable. But when they do eventually reach the end of their lifecycle, they can be recycled. Sometimes pallets can be repaired and sent back into circulation again, or they can be broken down and their residue used for applications as diverse as particleboard for construction, wood chips for heating and sawdust for animal bedding. Again, nothing is wasted. And by selecting transformation techniques such as these, contributions are being made towards the saving of our non renewable fossil-fuel energy.

The conservation of the environment is at the heart of HWP’s manufacturing principals. And by selecting HWP as your wood pallet manufacturer, your company is playing its part in conserving our environment. Contact HWP for more information about the company’s products and services.
